Getting into a new topic can be daunting. Where to start, what’s important, what are resources that don’t require a ton of previous knowledge?

This is my constantly updated list of great resources from the crypto world. The links are grouped into crypto basics, applied web3/crypto, and web3 development. 

 

General, Basics & Overview of Web3/Crypto 

Crypto Reading — Dan Romero – Let’s start with a reading list link to a reading list. This has a ton of great fundamental and mostly non tech basics.

DAO Canon by a16z – a collection of links on DAOs

Everything You Need To Know About DAOs – This article by Foundation gives a primer on Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAO). It explains what a DAO is, how it works, and the benefits of participating in a DAO.

Mastering Ethereum – This is a free book available on GitHub. It’s updated frequently, so if you really need to go deep or want to understand everything this is good.

Web3 foundation – The about page has a great overview of the web 3.0 tech stack. Short, simple and interactive. 

Crypto for People Who Don’t Follow Crypto • 1729 – great start for non-crypto people.

 

Non Dev Web3 Topics (or applied web3)

What explains the rise of AMMs? – Good showcase of how web3/defi disrupts tradfi. Non-tech intro on how Uniswap, Sushiswap  etc. work.

Zero Knowledge – Very important topic, explained in simple terms – learn how zero knowledge proofs work and where they can be applied.

Play to earn – Axie Infinity – Play-to-earn is just getting started. Learn about ingame economies, new mind blowing business models and the use of NFTs and fungible tokens in a game. 

Why we need wide adoption of social recovery wallets – Lost your seed phrase? Recover your wallet using smart contracts and some friends. Learn about how social recovery wallets work and how they compare to other wallets.

Shapeshift is decentralising – what does this have to do with learning about web3? Decentralising a real company and turning into a DAO gives you a glimpse on where this is all heading!

1729 Earn Crypto by learning – Cool portal that pays you for completing tasks mostly around crypto and web3. Lots of interesting articles too.

Work full time for a DAO – Interesting thread about how to work for a DAO full time.

Blockchains as App stores – Lots to learn from this thread and in general from Chris Dixon on Twitter.

Getting Started With Web3 Development 

EthHub– Goto source for everything Ethereum. From Tokenomics to Developer Tools.

Pet Shop Tutorial – Get started with Solidity using Truffe and Ganache.

Ethereum contract overview – OpenZeppelin – Ethereum contract overview, including Truffle or Hardhat tutorials for Solidity.

Ethereum dev stack for fast product iterations – Quick and easy way to set up a scaffold and start fiddling around with contracts and the connected frontend.

Solidity Examples –  List of Solidity sample coding.

Use web3.xyz – useWeb3 provides a curated overview of the best and latest resources on Ethereum, blockchain and Web3 development. These resources help you develop your own smart contracts, DeFi project, ERC20 or NFT tokens in Solidity or Vyper.

Cryptozombies – Nice entry into web3 via gaming. CryptoZombies is an interactive school that teaches you all things technical about blockchains. Learn to make smart contracts in Solidity or Libra by making your own crypto-collectibles game.

Bankless – Great Defi podcast, covering a broad range of topics.

Finematics – Animated, simple learning videos on Defi, crypto and web3.

Unchained – Podcast with a lot of great guests from a diverse background. The host breaks topics down well for non crypto natives.

Real Vision Videos Explain Finance, Business & The Global Economy – Great general investment platform with a free crypto section. Really good coverage of what is happening.
